Overview

Pika View is a web dashboard that turns retail data from informal markets into FMCG market insight for executives and investors. I designed and co-developed it, owned the UX architecture for its filters, comparisons, trend analysis and performance breakdowns, and managed delivery across design, engineering and data. After launch it reached $10K MRR and is on track to $100K MRR.

Problem

Fragmented data, slow answers

FMCG teams were working with large, fragmented datasets across brands, SKUs and regions. The data comes from informal retail: the Pika mobile app, used by 6,000+ traders, captures it in the field.

Existing tools made it difficult to explore that data confidently, compare performance, or extract actionable insights quickly. The questions executives brought were specific: market share, pricing shifts, distribution gaps and brand concentration.

The constraints were just as real: large datasets with performance costs, several user roles with different needs, data sold and accessed by region, and engineering limits on data loading and state management.

Solution

A filtering system that scales

Every business question needed a different slice of the same data, so I designed one flexible filtering system across brands, SKUs and regions rather than a fixed report per question. Because data is sold and accessed by region, the filters also had to respect what each customer could see.

Headline first, detail on demand

Executives needed the answer before the evidence, so I prioritized progressive disclosure: summary metrics up front, comparisons and performance breakdowns one level down. The overview stays readable without hiding depth.

Usability testing with internal stakeholders and external users shaped both decisions, with each round aimed at clarity and trust in the data.

Designed to be built

I worked across product discovery, UX design and frontend implementation. I partnered closely with engineering to define data structures, interaction patterns and component logic, and built reusable components aligned with engineering constraints, balancing performance with clarity in the data visualizations.

As Technical Project Manager I coordinated engineers, designers, data teams and stakeholders, and delivered 95% of milestones on schedule using Jira.

Outcome

After launch

The dashboard became a core tool for tracking brand and market trends. After launch:

  • Pika View reached $10K MRR and is on track to $100K MRR.
  • Executive adoption improved by 30%.
  • User efficiency improved by 20%.
  • Field data accuracy increased by 25%, through work with backend, data and mobile teams on ingestion and real-time synchronization.

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of designing systems, not screens, especially in data-heavy environments where clarity directly affects decision quality.
